Where they live online instead

A booking page, a Facebook page or a directory listing is not a website: the business doesn't own it and it rarely shows up when someone searches the business name and city.

How we counted

For each trade and city we took up to ten independent businesses with the highest Google rating (ties broken by review count), at least 20 reviews and 4.5 stars, leaving out national chains and franchises. A business counts as having a website only if it has its own domain that loads and belongs to it. Booking platforms (Booksy, Vagaro, Square, Fresha, Squire and similar), Facebook, Instagram, Linktree, Yelp and parked or expired domains do not count. Checked by hand in November 2026. The named lists are on our best-reviewed pages; this index names no one.
