One tap when they set up the tent. Their website flips to live, tells customers exactly where the tent is, and hands them walking directions off their phone’s GPS. Six hours later it turns itself off. Nobody logs in. Nothing to maintain — not them, not you.
Left is the private owner page (/here) they get texted once. Right is what everybody else sees at the top of the website. These two phones are wired together — tap the buttons on the left and watch the right.
The green button sets the site to “We’re at the market right now.” The little “where’s the tent” line is optional — most will leave it blank.
PIN MY TENT asks the phone for its location once and saves that exact spot. No map to fiddle with, no address to type.
That button opens Apple Maps (iPhone) or Google Maps (Android) already in walking mode, pointed at the pin. Works from the parking lot.
Live expires 6 hours after the tap. If they forget DONE FOR TODAY, nothing breaks. When it’s off, customers see the hours line instead.
Every site has its own secret link — site.com/here?k=…. It’s in that site’s README. Text it, don’t post it.
Open the link in Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen. It becomes an icon called “Booth.” Takes 20 seconds; do it with them at the tent.
Tap the icon, tap WE’RE HERE. First Saturday, also tap PIN MY TENT while standing under the tent. Done until they pack up.
No login, no password, no app to update. The link remembers itself on their phone. If they lose it, you text it again.
One tiny record per site in Netlify’s built-in storage (Blobs). The customer page reads it on every load; the owner page writes it. Free tier covers it many times over.
The owner link carries a random 24-character key. The site only accepts a change if the key matches the one set on that site. Wrong key → nothing happens. Customers never see the key; the public page is read-only.
Latitude/longitude from the phone, saved with a timestamp. Customers never see raw numbers — they see a “Walk me there” button that opens their maps app in walking mode.
Nothing. It ships baked into every maker site (Sioux Creek Forge, Dough Daddy, Blondie’s, Tony’s, Crust & Crumb all have it live). New builds get it from the template automatically.
“Your website knows if you’re here right now. You tap one button when you set up. Customers see you’re open and get walking directions straight to your tent — I haven’t seen anyone else in NWA doing that.”
